A different perspective

Tonight we are all quite tired so it is another guest blog from me (Geoff) this evening. Helping Amelia through last night kept us awake for a while as she battled the fevers of Malaria. Apparently, Malaria hits quite hard in terms of fevers the first time you get it. Millie's temperature has raged up at times today and she has experienced the lows and highs of fighting Malaria as well as the side effects of the medication. She has been very brave though. On a normal evening it is hard to feel you've had a good nights sleep due to the still heat, so on nights where we're up and down we feel quite tired for the next day.

Staying on a mission base means that you get to meet many people coming and going, quite a number using the Transit House as their base for part of their time here. Some are here for their first visit, others for repeat visits or as part of broader programs and each has a story to share. It is nice to be able to chat to different people. Over the last couple of days we have met Art Daniel, who runs South Pacific Ministries (http://www.southpacificministries.blogspot.com/). Art is a keen photographer so we had a look at his latest 'photo journey' and learned a little more about his work and this part of the Pacific. I thought you might like to see how SWIM looks through the eyes of a different photographer.

A view of SWIM from 'up top'. The two magnificent rain trees provide lovely shade and homes for the rope and tyre swings. Our house is off to the right of the Transit House

Another magnificent rain tree behind our house provides lovely shade.

Looking across the volleyball court and pineapple plantation towards another staff house. SWIM is a lovely green oasis on the eastern side of Honiara.

Our second family photo in the shade of the rain tree -
it was lovely to have Art ask us if he could take a family photo for us.

A nice photo - thanks Art!

Amanda started some more intense training with the teachers at the Hospital School today. She will be doing this four days a week from now on. As well as creating some great resources she is working hard on giving the teachers lots of games, strategies and understanding as to how to best teach areas such as literacy and numeracy. The three teachers at the school are lovely and Amanda enjoys working with them and assisting them to better understand what is involved in teaching.

I think I've stayed up late enough to be able to give Millie her next dose of paracetamol so it's goodnight all and off to bed for me!
